Messages newly released in Dominion Voting Systems defamation case show media mogul discussed when to call Trump’s defeat

Rupert Murdoch took a direct role in how Fox News finally called the 2020 US election for Joe Biden over Donald Trump, newly unredacted messages in Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6bn defamation case showed on Friday.

“It would be great if we call it for Biden as soon as he gets over, say, 35,000 ahead in Pennsylvania,” Murdoch, the now 92-year-old Fox News owner, wrote to the network’s chief executive, Suzanne Scott, on 6 November 2020, three days after election day but a day before Pennsylvania put Biden over the top.

Britain’s businesses are reporting a spring surge in order books, boosting hopes that the economy may finally be recovering after flirting with recession late last year.

After official figures showing the UK performed slightly more strongly than originally thought towards the end of 2022, the Institute of Directors said there had been an improvement in demand, confidence, hiring and investment intentions in March.

City of Little Rock worst hit, with about 70,000 homes without power as storms move through midwest and southern US

A massive tornado plowed through Little Rock, Arkansas, and surrounding areas on Friday afternoon, reducing rooftops to splinters, toppling vehicles and tossing debris on roadways as people took shelter.

The local emergency medical service estimated that at least 600 people were hurt, one local television station, WCAV, reported. Police officers helped take people to the hospital because there weren’t enough ambulances to respond to the wounded.

It could almost be a fable from Aesop, or a story from the Brothers Grimm: the toddler, the lizard and the cake. But for one small child, whose baked treat was snatched by an iguana, it was a tale with a twist.

Doctors have revealed that the toddler ended up with an unusual infection after being bitten by the reptile as it tried to steal a bite of cake.
