Negotiations continued overnight between UK and EU at European commission’s headquarters in Brussels
This is from Gavin Barwell, who was chief of staff to Theresa May in No 10 when she tried, and failed, to negotiate a withdrawal agreement to the EU acceptable to her parliament.
The truth is the deal means the introduction of significant barriers to free trade e.g. customs and regulatory checks (but it is better than no deal and we could certainly do with some good news atm) https://t.co/9MUMkPXvTc
From the Wall Street Journal’s Brussels correspondent Laurence Norman
One interesting suggestion from a couple of EU sources — this may not just be a Brussels-London thing. Suggestion that Paris has also been involved in the last minute fish haggling, also holding things up. Not clear to what extent yet.
