Tory MPs call for immediate return of Albanian asylum seekers

Amnesty condemns letter from 50 MPs saying people who say they have been trafficked should also be sent back to Albania

More than 50 Conservative MPs have written to Rishi Sunak saying asylum seekers from Albania should be summarily returned, as should those who say they have been trafficked, an idea condemned by charities as unworkable.

The MPs, led by the former cabinet minister David Davis, argue this would reduce asylum backlogs and provide a deterrent to migrants. But Amnesty International said the idea would breach the UN refugee convention and put vulnerable people at risk.
